DVT (Blood Clots): A Deadly Side Effect of Yaz

A deep venous thrombosis (DVT) refers to a blood clot that becomes implanted within one of the major deep veins of the lower limbs. This type of clot blocks blood flow through the vein, which in turn, causes pain, swelling, and/or fever in the affected leg.

Further complications can then occur if the clot embolizes, or breaks loose, travels through the bloodstream, and causes blockage of blood vessels in the lung (pulmonary arteries). Called a pulmonary embolism, this can lead to severe breathing difficulty and even death.

This is just one of the Yaz side effects that has lead to Yaz lawsuits.

In fact, on October 14, 2011 an abcnewsgo.com article entitled, “New Studies Find Yaz More Risky Than Other Leading Birth Control Pills: ABC News Investigates,” reported that independent studies found that the contraceptive pill Yaz carries a higher risk of blood clots than other birth control medication.

This article follows countless scenarios of women who, upon hearing Yaz helped with bloating and acne, switched to the birth control medication thinking it was safe, only to be seriously injured as a result of heart-stopping blood clots.
