Depakote Symptoms
Depakote (divalproex sodium) is a medication used to treat epileptic seizures, bipolar disorder, migraines and possibly other conditions. It is a drug, however, that has been known to cause birth defects when taken during pregnancy.

Depakote Birth Defects and FDA Pregnancy Category D
As a result of so many known birth defect cases, in December 2009 The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) issued a Depakote warning about the increased risk. Depakote is also listed as a pregnancy category D, which means that evidence of fetal risk exists.
