Please note: The information on this page is provided for informational purposes only. As of 2011, Simmons Hanly Conroy is no longer accepting cases involving Zelnorm.
Zelnorm is a medication used to treat women who have irritable bowel syndrome with constipation (IBS-C). The common symptoms of IBS-C include cramps, abdominal pain, bloating, constipation and/or diarrhea. Zelnorm was originally designed to increase the progress of stools through the bowels.
Health Complications and Zelnorm Lawsuits
Studies demonstrated the serious side effects caused by Zelnorm. These side effects ranged from mild to serious but included:
- Severe chest pain
- Shortness of breath
- Sudden onset of weakness
- Difficulty walking or talking
- Heart attack
After 29 studies, involving more than 18,000 patients, revealed that those who took the drug had an increased risk of heart problems, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) requested the withdrawal of Zelnorm from the marketplace. Because of this, the manufacturer, Novartis, voluntarily pulled Zelnorm off the market.
Since 2011, Simmons Hanly Conroy no longer accepts Zelnorm cases. Learn more about past litigation areas of the pharmaceutical lawyers at the firm or explore more information on our current areas of litigation. Please contact us with any questions.

I give thanks to the Simmons firm. I am so grateful. It seems like when something happens, like my roof or chimney leaking, we now have the funds.
